Join award-winning songwriter and debut children’s writer Karine Polwart and acclaimed illustrator Kate Leiper as they share their new picture book, “A Wee Bird Was Watching.” Through music and drawing, discover an enchanted woodland of delights in a story that is a wonderful tale of resilience, kindness and courage.

About Kate Leiper

Kate Leiper is an artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh. She studied at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and her work has been exhibited in galleries from London to the north of Scotland. The Scottish Storytelling Centre and the Royal Lyceum Theatre have commissioned her artwork. Her inspirations range from Scottish folklore to the Far East to Shakespeare. Recently she has collaborated with Karine Powlart to illustrate Karine’s children book, A Wee Bird is Watching. Kate and acclaimed author Theresa Breslin have partnered on An Illustrated Scottish Castle Legends, Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales, and An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures (both Floris Books).

About Karine Polwart

BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer Of The Year 2018, Karine Polwart is a multi-award-winning Scottish songwriter and musician, as well as theatre-maker, storyteller, spoken-word performer and published essayist. Her songs combine folk influences and myth with themes as diverse as Donald Trump’s corporate megalomania, Charles Darwin’s family life and the complexities of modern parenthood. She sings traditional songs too and writes to commission for theatre, animation and thematic collaborative projects. Karine is seven-times winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including three times for Best Original Song.
