Note primary school age children must be accompanied by a parent or adult carer at all times. Limited availability so book early to secure your place. Materials included.

Part 1: 1.30pm-2.30pm

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.”
– John Muir.

Enjoy an after-lunch woodland walk to the River Tay with Kate Leiper and stop for a story at the Birnam Oak. Kate tells a Scottish Traveller’s tale about oak trees and considers the many stories that are connected to that spot. The animals of the area were the endless source of inspiration for Beatrix Potter who invented the character of Peter Rabbit across the river at Eastwood House. Young Beatrix could not encounter beavers as they were extinct here during her lifetime. With their recent reintroduction to the Tay, we can imagine a beaver character for her. Kate will help you dream up this beaver’s appearance, personality, and Potter-type name.

Part 2: 2.45pm-4.15pm

“Walking by water frees your creativity… there’s something about it that’s liberating.”
– Val McDermid

It is often said that walking clears your mind and helps to open all your senses to nature. Now Kate Leiper invites you to bring your inspirations from the Birnam Oak back into the studio to get arty, crafty, and creative! What new stories will the trees, river, wildlife, and ecology have awakened today? And will a Scottish beaver join the cast of Potter-inspired characters?
